We are a learning community of 800 students in Years 7 to 11 and over 100 staff housed in modern, well equiped buildings on a large open campus. Le Rocquier School serves the east of Jersey and we are Jersey’s largest secondary school. We are an inclusive school in all respects and value everyone and each aspect of our community, from parents and carers to our partner Primary Schools.
We strive to nurture and develop every part of our community. We offer a wide choice of GCSE subjects as well as Level 1 and entry level qualifications. Some of our courses are BTEC qualifications so students can choose their learning style and all our courses allow progression to Level 3 (A Level, IB or BTEC) qualifications. We help our parents through offering coaching and advice via our Welfare Team who can offer help over the phone or courses such as the Triple P parenting course. As part of our inclusion work, Le Rocquier is resourced as the Islands school for Hearing Impaired children and British Sign Language is taught to all our students.
Our aim at Le Rocquier is to develop the best out of every individual student. That could be combinations of academic achievement, sport or life skills for example. We want them to leave Le Rocquier able to contribute in whatever profession they choose or whichever area of the world they make their home. We believe strongly in developing the individual to fulfil their potential on Jersey and as a global citizen. We underpin this with high expectations of their learning journey, as well as their personal growth. We help students acquire good ‘learning and life skills’ as learning does not stop once students leave us.We call these ‘Behaviours for Learning’ and are the back bone of our pastoral work in school. These are:
- Problem Solving & Independence
- Decision Making
- Perseverance & Resilience
- Collaboration & Enterprise
- Leadership & Initiative
- Skilfulness & Creativity
These are the skills and traits that make Le Rocquier students successful in employment and life.
Our exam outcomes reflect an improving trend. This year we have seen 100% pass rates in Dance, Drama and Design Technology. RE achieved 82%, Music 76% and English nearly 70%. Our 2019 GCSE results day had a real sense of achievement and celebration. We look forward to hearing great things as our former students proudly move on to their next phase of education or employment.
